Fiction: The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones wasnt what I expected. I dont know exactly what I was expecting but whatever expectations I had were quickly lost as I got into the book. It was disturbing and it was hard to read but not in a gory way. More like a creepy, suddenly suspicious of strange neighbours kind of way. It doesnt help that I have a single man living next door to me who never opens his blinds, leaves all the lights off and barely grunts a greeting when we pass one another. I liked the concept of heaven that Alice Sebold builds and that Susie has things that she has to come to grips with, even as her family comes to grips with her death. I was hoping for a resolution with her killer and while it came in some roundabout way, I guess I was a bit bloodthirstier than I thought.
I dont know that I would want to own this book, it feels a little too scary a concept to ponder on any regular basis everytime the title catches my eye but I would recommend it as a thought-provoking choice.
